Aortic Stenosis: Treatments

The fourth of four peer-to-peer videos that aim to increase awareness of valvular heart disease and the important role that nurses play in early identification, access to prompt treatment, and prevention of deleterious outcomes. Dr. Janet Wyman, Nurse Practitioner, and Administrative Director, Structural Heart Clinical Services, Henry Ford Health System, presents this tutorial on aortic stenosis treatments.

Early identification and treatment of Aortic Stenosis are discussed along with an overview of the decision-making process that matches the patient to the best treatment option.  The program concludes with a discussion of the nurse’s role in caring for a patient recovering from each of the procedures reviewed including open-heart valve replacement surgery, transcatheter valve replacement (TAVR), and balloon valvuloplasty.
