About Hypertension

High blood pressure or hypertension, termed the “silent killer”, is a major public health epidemic in the United States and globally. It is the leading modifiable cause of heart attack, strokes, and death and is associated with an increased risk of numerous chronic conditions such as kidney disease, coronary heart disease, and heart failure.

Hypertension remains a poorly controlled risk factor for cardiovascular CVD and mortality. The Centers for Disease Control state that only about 1 in 4 adults with hypertension have controlled hypertension and nearly half of all adults in the US have hypertension. Despite guideline-mandated treatment strategies, performance measures, and effective therapeutic options, these gaps in quality of care translate into uncontrolled hypertension and preventable stroke, heart attack, and heart failure, as well as billions of dollars in avoidable healthcare costs.
