About Obesity Management
Obesity has been increasing in epidemic proportions over the last several decades. In addition to its own chronic health side effects, there are several adverse health effects of overweight and obesity on cardiovascular health. Obesity worsens most of the major cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, including blood cholesterol levels, blood pressure, glucose, and inflammation. In addition, obesity is associated with coronary heart disease, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation.
Cardiovascular nurses work with an increasing number of patients at risk for, or with, obesity, its comorbidities, and complications, including stroke, hypertension, dyslipidemia, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, polycystic ovarian syndrome/infertility, and type 2 diabetes.
