Emily Bankhead, MSN, FNP-BC has been obsessed with cardiometabolic health since high school anatomy class. As a registered nurse, she worked in thoracic and coronary ICU, cardiac cath lab, and open heart surgery recovery units. As a new graduate nurse practitioner, she was fortunate to work with an experienced NP mentor who taught her the importance of guidelines-directed therapy, and GDMT has been the focus of her career since then. She worked in diabetes and endocrinology for over twelve years, and was board certified as a diabetes educator and advanced diabetes clinical management. During that time, she taught diabetes classes, managed complex cases of diabetes during pregnancy, and helped start the first insulin pump program at Evans Army Medical Center in Colorado. She also developed, directed, and presented at a recurring two-day CME “Team-Based Diabetes Management Course”  for primary care teams in the Colorado Springs military health system. The conference updated primary care teams on standards of care for diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, obesity, perinatal metabolic care, and MASLD.  In 2024, Emily joined Pikes Peak ENT, Allergy, and Asthma. She enjoys helping her patients breathe better so they can become more physically active.,  She is still actively involved in diabetes care, including teaching free diabetes classes at a local food bank. She became involved with PCNA in 2024, and has loved meeting so many dedicated professionals through this organization.
