About
Global Perspectives

Cardiovascular disease (CVD), while highly preventable, is the leading cause of death and disability globally. The World Heart Federation reaffirmed the commitment to "cardiovascular health for everyone" by setting a goal to reduce the prevalence of CVD and premature mortality by 33% by 2030.

Nurses are critical members of the healthcare team and play a key role in alleviating the burden of CVD. Nurses and nursing organizations are vital participants in research, practice, and policy advocacy initiatives promoting CVD and stroke prevention. Successfully helping patients manage their health by accurately identifying and assessing risk, encouraging lifestyle changes, and identifying evidence-based treatments that benefit the individual, their families, communities, and countries.

Providing nurses with improved training, networking opportunities, and access to professional and patient education materials will save lives, improve quality of life, and reduce healthcare costs for those at risk for, or already living with, CVD.
