Chapter Background

This chapter is new, starting in the spring of 2025. The Boise Chapter is currently seeking to provide evidence-based preventative cardiology education for clinicians and patients with a goal to decrease cardiovascular risk and promoting optimal cardiovascular health for our community. The Boise area is rapidly growing in population and is currently struggling with a shortage of healthcare providers. A goal for this chapter is to help bridge that gap between healthcare providers and patients by disseminating education through hosting community outreach events and educational events for healthcare providers to stay up to date with current cardiology and cardiovascular care.

Mariah O’Shea, MSN, RN, CV-BC is the current Chapter President and a founding member of the Chapter. With over five years of nursing experience, Mariah has built a strong clinical foundation in emergency medicine and trauma care. Her career has also included work with cardiothoracic and vascular surgical patients in the ambulatory setting. She now serves as a nursing supervisor in a general cardiology practice at St. Luke’s Healthcare. Mariah’s time in emergency medicine ignited a deep passion for disease prevention, as she witnessed the profound impact that timely intervention can have on patient outcomes. Her transition into cardiovascular care only strengthened that commitment, reinforcing the vital role nurses play in educating patients, promoting healthy lifestyle changes, and preventing the progression of chronic disease. Dedicated to advancing cardiovascular health through prevention-focused care, Mariah brings both clinical expertise and a genuine passion for patient advocacy to her role with PCNA. She is committed to empowering individuals and communities to take control of their heart health through education, early intervention, and compassionate support.

This Chapter has also been co-founded with Amanda Skarban, BSN, RN, CCRP. Amanda is currently serving as the Chapter’s Vice President. Amanda has been a nurse for over six years. She began her career in inpatient rehabilitation before moving into an outpatient heart clinic, where she found a strong interest in cardiac care. Over three years ago, she transitioned to St. Luke’s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, where her personal passion for health and wellness aligned with her professional focus. She enjoys supporting patients throughout their cardiovascular health journey and finds it especially rewarding to see them make positive, lasting changes along the way.
