Congratulations on being accepted to apply for the PCNA Research Grant! A total of two grants will be awarded in the amount of $100,000 each. Each PCNA Research Grant is designed to empower nurses who are actively engaged in research that seeks to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease through prevention strategies. The grants aim to support clinical and community-based research that advances practice, informs policy, and/or improves patient outcomes in cardiovascular health.

Timeline

  • Application deadline: July 15, 11:59 PM Central Time
  • Committee reviews applications July 16 – September 14
  • Notification sent to applicants: September 15
  • Funding period: October 1, 2026 – September 30, 2027
  • Expectations of awardee’s communications and presentation of data:
    • Poster presentation of progress to date at the poster fair at PCNA’s Annual Cardiovascular Nursing Symposium, April 2027 in Austin, TX
    • Final findings due October 30, 2027
    • Presentation of findings on the main stage at PCNA’s Annual Cardiovascular Nursing Symposium, April 2028 (US city, location TBD)
    • Final abstract to be submitted for publication in the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing
    • Opportunity for quarterly check-ins with PCNA BOD members heading the research grant initiative
    • Opportunity for informal check ins at PCNA’s Annual Symposium

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by a committee of clinical and academic leaders using the NIH-style template. Each application will be assessed on the following :

  • Factor 1: Importance of the Research for Cardiovascular Nursing
    • Significance, Innovation
    • Scored 1 – 9
  • Factor 2: Rigor and Feasibility
    • Approach (also includes Inclusion and Clinical Trial (CT) Study Timeline )
    • Scored 1 – 9
  • Factor 3: Expertise and Resources
    • Investigators, Environment
    • Evaluated as appropriate or gaps identified; gaps require explanation
    • Considered in overall impact; no individual score
  • Clarity and feasibility of the proposed research
  • Potential for leadership growth and development within the investigators’ organization(s) and within PCNA
  • Alignment with PCNA mission to elevate nursing leadership in healthcare

      As the awardee, you will be given registration and hotel support to attend the PCNA Cardiovascular Nursing Symposia in April 2027 and April 2028. You will need to budget for air/transportation to and from the meeting (utilizing funds from this grant for April 2027 (Austin, TX) and with plans to identify additional support for April 2028 (US location TBD)).
