Chapter Background
Dr. Emily Jones started the Oklahoma Chapter. She is a nurse scientist who conducts type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention-focused community-based participatory research in collaboration with partners in the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma. Specifically, she works with Indigenous women who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes to identify and implement intervention approaches to reduce stress-related cardiometabolic risk factors and prevent diabetes development in the postpartum period and subsequent years. Dr. Jones earned her BSN at Oklahoma Baptist University and her PhD at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Before becoming a researcher, she practiced as a labor and delivery nurse, and she maintains certification in inpatient obstetrical nursing.
