PCNA Welcomes Karen Grindstaff, MSN, FNP-BC As 2012 Inducted Fellow

Nurse from Asheville, NC is inducted as a Fellow at the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association’s Annual Symposium in Washington, DC

Karen Grindstaff, MSN, FNP-BC, FPCNA, of Asheville, North Carolina, was inducted into the 2012 class of Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA) Fellows during the PCNA 18th Annual Symposium on Friday, April 13 in Washington, DC. Grindstaff is a Primary Provider in the Community Living Center at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

PCNA Fellows represent the best in PCNA membership and have shown excellence in leadership within PCNA and volunteer service to PCNA.

Grindstaff is the founding Chapter Leader for the North Carolina Chapter of PCNA. The North Carolina chapter was initiated informally at the 3rd Annual Lipid Nurse Task Force Symposium in response to an overwhelming need for sharing information amongst professionals working in the same area. Initial chapter meetings were held in Asheville with members participating from as far away as Wilmington, seven hours away. These meetings were designed to give continuing education to participants along with ample opportunity to network and discuss practices that were helpful in each location. Grindstaff has led three regional PCNA fall symposiums.

Grindstaff also completed the development of and promoted the Asheville Cardiology Lipid Clinic in 1995. The clinic was developed using one of the first electronic medical records system in the private sector.

Grindstaff is one of two new Fellows inducted in 2012. She was awarded this Fellowship along with Susan M. Bush, RN of Greeley, Colorado.
