PCNA President Addresses New FDA Tobacco Regulations

MADISON, Wis.–(April 25, 2014)–President of Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA), Barbara Fletcher, RN, MN, FAHA, FPCNA, FAAN makes statement following U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s release of proposed regulations on several forms of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes: “As cardiovascular health care professionals dedicated to the prevention of cardiovascular disease and along with my fellow colleagues, I applaud the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for taking these steps forward in asserting authority over all tobacco products, including cigars, flavored cigars, e-cigarettes, hookah and pipe tobacco in order to protect public health.”

Further, PCNA addressed the dangers of tobacco and cardiovascular disease and during its 20th Annual Symposium, by encouraging its more than 3,600 members to contact their representatives about stopping the tobacco industry from marketing all tobacco products to youth. At the same event, PCNA featured a breakout session by Carol Southard called Winning the Tobacco Battle: One Smoker at a Time.
