PCNA Celebrates 20th Annual Symposium, Adds Pharmacology Preconference

The Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA) is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Annual Symposium at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Atlanta, April 10-12, 2014. The Annual Symposium is PCNA’s largest event of the year, featuring 16 hours of Continuing Education (CE), with lectures by globally recognized speakers delivering the latest information on best practices and national guidelines in cardiovascular risk reduction and disease management. This year a new Pharmacology Preconference has been added to the event lineup.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating our 20th Anniversary of the Annual Symposium. We strive to keep our program fresh and timely by adding new innovative features, topics and speakers each year” says PCNA CEO Sue Koob, MPA. “Our attendees always have such great energy and excitement about the program and events, and have shown great enthusiasm for this year’s pharmacology preconference.”

The new Pharmacology Preconference is a half-day session devoted solely to pharmacology and designed for advanced practice nurses in cardiology and primary care. The session offers seven hours of pharmacology credit and can be attended as a stand-alone event. The Pharmacology Preconference will be in Atlanta on April 9, preceding the main Symposium.

“We wanted to expand our offering of CE programs for advanced practice nurses,” says Koob. “We knew that pharmacology CE requirements for APN recertification increased effective January 2014 and felt this would be a great addition to our symposium and help meet the needs of our members.”

In addition to the education offered at the preconference, attendees can expect timely keynotes covering topics from the new cholesterol guidelines, to cardiovascular risk reduction in African-American patients. The symposium’s highly-regarded speakers include; Dr. Valentin Fuster, Dr. Nanette K. Wenger, Dr. Keith Ferdinand, and Dr. Daniel Forman, and more. Attendees can also look forward to moderated research poster sessions, an exhibit hall, lobbying and advocacy initiatives and networking opportunities.
