PCNA Applauds ACC’s Team Approach to Cardiovascular Practice

(May 15, 2015) The Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association congratulates our American College of Cardiology (ACC) colleagues for this important, timely, and forward-thinking health policy statement. We applaud the ACC for its work in the area of team-based care which has evolved enormously since the college first welcomed nurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants and pharmacists as ACC members over 10 years ago. PCNA has had the pleasure of collaborating with the ACC on interprofessional educational efforts and patient education initiatives over the past ten years.

Current PCNA president Cheryl Dennison-Himmelfarb RN, ANP, PhD, FAAN, Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing commented, “True team-based cardiovascular care leverages the respective strengths of nursing, pharmacy, medicine, and nutrition in a way that each adds unique value to patient care and population health improvement.”
