FAQ

What is the Strategies for Nurses and Patients: Access to Innovative Medicine program about?
The project is in response to the challenges health care providers (HCPs) and their patients face each day:
  • Increasing amount of time HCPs spend navigating complex payment systems (completing prior authorization paperwork, documentation of previous treatments and their efficacy, follow-ups with pharmacies and insurance companies, and communicating with frustrated patients and families)
  • Increased job dissatisfaction with more nurses leaving the field at a time when their skills are most needed as the population ages
  • Difficulty getting prescribed treatments approved by insurance
  • Being placed on a prescription in the hospital and then being unable to fill that same prescription after discharge due to different formularies
  • Prescription switching by pharmacies based on formularies
  • Challenges refilling a prescription after the original 30- or 90-day course is completed
  • Misunderstanding regarding the risks of stopping prescribed treatments without provider knowledge
  • Affordability of treatments
PCNA recognizes that nurses are best positioned to represent and empower patients, help problem-solve solutions, and ensure the best patient outcomes.
