The Upstate South Carolina PCNA Chapter was started in 2013 by Victoria Kilcawley, DNP-C, FNP-C, WHNP, MN, CCRN; Kathy Dickey, RN, MSN; and Lori Boyd, MSN, RN, CVN. It covers the northwest corner of South Carolina, including the counties of Greenville, Cherokee, Laurens, Spartanburg, and Union.
The Upstate South Carolina Chapter was started with the goals of increasing patient focused awareness of preventable and manageable risk factors, promoting evidence based patient educational materials, and spreading awareness of PCNA and the chapter among nurses and other primary care providers in the local area. “We can educate others about their responsibility to work toward wellness and prevention,” said Kathy Dickey.
And according to the founding chapter leaders, the Upstate South Carolina area will greatly benefit from having a chapter. “(The chapter) will help to serve those at most risk for coronary heart disease, hypertension, cerebrovascular accident, and early death that may be prevented with education and resources,” said Kilcawley.
