“About 610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year–that’s 1 in every 4 deaths”. Heart Disease Facts & Statistics cdc_gov.htm
The Connecticut Chapter of the PCNA looks forward to capturing the hearts and minds of our treasured State of Connecticut, as well as the beautiful Pioneer Valley in southern Massachusetts. The Chapter was formed in 2015 under the collaboration of many medical professionals, as well as the support of Hoffman Heart and Vascular Institute at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT. The Chapter was developed in hopes to engage all professionals in the medicine of preventative cardiovascular care across the continuum. The Connecticut Chapter whole heartedly supports the American Heart Association which states; “You’re never too young or too old to take care of your heart”!
Currently, our first meeting or “Cardiac Kickoff” membership drive will be held in March with the hopes of raising awareness and obtaining membership from multiple interdisciplinary areas. One of our first goals as a Chapter will be to organize a Lipids symposium. The meeting will highlight “lipid control” as a way to prevent or slow the progression of cardiovascular disease. The meetings objective will be to focus on current recommendations for cholesterol testing and understanding the lipid panel.
