It is important for Chapters to have structure through their leadership team in order to secure a smooth, strategic, and thoughtful succession plan. The below leadership job descriptions and committee descriptions are encouraged suggestions for chapters to implement. Chapters may create different jobs, combine committee, one person may play more than one role, etc.

This chapter is to help guide you through chapter structure and organization, and to aid in the process of identifying individuals for leadership roles.

Chapter Leadership Team Job Descriptions

Chapter President 

  • Calls general membership and business meetings
  • Prior to meetings, reviews meeting agendas and ensures notifications have been sent out
  • Submits annual report to national with support of other officers
  • Serves as liaison to one of the standing committees - participating as a member, representing chapter leadership, and ensuring continued functioning of the committee
  • Elected. Serves a two year term. Can be re-elected for up to two consecutive terms.

Chapter President-Elect

  • Serves a one-year term under the mentorship of the President
  • Serves as liaison to one of the standing committees - participating as a member, representing chapter leadership, and ensuring continued functioning of the committee
  • Elected. After one year, the President-Elect steps into the role of President for a two-year term.

Chapter Vice President 

  • Serves as alternate to President or Secretary should either not be able to attend a called meeting
  • Serves as liaison to one of the standing committees - participating as a member, representing chapter leadership, and ensuring continued functioning of the committee
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the President
  • Elected. Serves a two-year term and can be re-elected for up to two consecutive terms.

Chapter Secretary/Treasurer

  • Archives official communications and promotional materials of the chapter
  • Maintains manual of chapter bylaws, goals, leadership, reports
  • Handles chapter finances and coordinates such with national 
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the President
  • Serves as liaison to one of the standing committees - participating as a member, representing chapter leadership, and ensuring continued functioning of the committee
  • Elected. Serves a two-year term and can be re-elected for up to two consecutive terms.

Chapter Website/Publicity Coordinator

  • Develops, maintains, and updates chapter website
  • Assists other committees in developing promotional materials
  • Creates membership meeting invitations
  • Develops group mailing lists for the chapter
  • Appointed role.

Chapter Membership/Community Initiatives Coordinator

  • Is responsible for exploring outreach opportunities regarding membership recruitment to chapter events
  • Communicates with new PCNA members, follow up invitation to join chapter
  • Appointed role.

CHAPTER COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

Nominating Committee

  • Consists of at least 3 chapter members
  • Develop nominees for officer positions
  • Ensure appropriateness of nominees
  • Educate membership on nominees’ qualifications
  • Coordinate elections
  • President-Elect serves as liaison

Membership Committee

  • Promotes membership to PCNA in general and the chapter in particular
  • Maintains chapter resources for PCNA educational materials and membership applications
  • Follows up on leads for new members, such as sending letters and applications to guests who attend meetings
  • Creates and maintains a poster for the chapter to use for promotional purposes
  • Vice-President serves as liaison

Education Committee

  • Surveys members to determine needs/interests for educational programs
  • Arranges speakers for educational programs
  • Coordinates quarterly chapter educational programs
  • Assists in developing educational programs for membership or the community
  • President serves as liaison

Community Initiatives Committee

  • Coordinates PCNA member and chapter involvement in community events, focusing on cardiac prevention and health promotional activities
  • Secretary-Treasurer serves as liaison
